In a light, bright, stripped-oak interior, the Canbury's chef - a former employee of TV tyrant Gordon Ramsay - creates reasonably priced food that oozes quality. Spice it up on a Tuesday evening with a curry, or enjoy a 20% reduction on a Wednesday night. The drinks are top-notch too, with Timothy Taylor Landlord, HSB and Sussex Best on draught, Leffe and San Miguel the pick of the lagers, and an extensive wine list. On the first Tuesday of the month, there's an Irish banjo player, and on the odd Sunday young locals perform easy-going jazz. Parties and quiz nights are held in the spacious conservatory, which sheds its roof in summer.
