Bars & Pubs

  • Glassy Junction

  • Local Indian pub

  • The only pub in Britain to accept rupees, the Glassy Junction is peppered with silver and gilt Indian knick-knacks. Highlights of the rather lacklustre drink selection include Cobra and Kingfisher (£4 or 320 rupees a pint), or a sweet or sour lassi - but no India Pale Ale (these days known as IPA) or indeed any ale at all. Regulars include Punjabi elders and Southall 'yoof' (all hair gel, bling and pimp rolls), who hang out in the serious-looking pool room. A giant plasma screen shows Bollywood-style films and pop videos.

Southall's best pub, friendly crowd playin' desi and bhangra hits. Cheap beer, tacky decor but a good vibe and only a couple of minutes walk from the station. Sometimes busy, sometimes quiet but mainly frequented by locals. Good place to stop by for a couple if you're coming to Southall to shop or sample one of the many Indian restaurants.

I have this 20s party coming up and apart from the dancing I need a slick John Dillinger outfit and a moll who can dance. Oh. my name's not Vernon....
