Bars & Pubs

  • Empress of India

  • With mosaic floor tiling and mussel-shell chandeliers, the airy, conservatory-feel Empress usually hums with diners contentedly tucking into the likes of veal ossobuco with white truffle mash. So far, a typically accomplished Martin brothers gastropub. But - despite Broadside and Landlord on handpumps, Paulaner, Amstel and Bitburger on tap, Meantime Pale Ale in the fridge and a good wine list - the boozing section is just a couple of clumps of low furniture and a dozen red-cushioned bar stools. So think of the place as a grand subcontinental cafĂ© (smoothies and quality teas are also offered) and enjoy playing the memsahib by the tiger's head and languorous sitar-player mirror.

I went for a wonderfully relaxed Brunch here last Friday, and I had to say that the eggs benedict was absolutey scrummy, for want of a better word! I thought the whole pub was just gorgeous, such a lovely atmosphere, and really friendly staff! Will definately be returning this weekend around lovebox!
