All the usual Wetherspoons features are in place here - decent hand-pulled ale with regular specials, food and drink deals - but this large and handsome building has overcome its corporatisation with aplomb. Set back from a busy junction opposite Wanstead tube station, its Edwardian etched windows and attractive ironwork have remained intact while a 'throne' depicting historical and mythical Georges adds a kitschy touch.
