Set in a quiet residential street off the King's Road, the Phoenix aspires to be a locals' hangout rather than a trendy Chelsea watering hole. The subsequent 'homely' theme seems to dictate a rather nauseating brown and orange palette stamped with vaguely rustic items including jars of apples, a lone shelf of books and the odd faded rug - all very much belied by the twinkly bar, light wood floor and arty black and white photography. Confused identity aside, the staff are extremely good-humoured, there are more than 20 wines by the glass (starting at just £3) and ales on tap include London Pride and Adnams. The large back dining room offers familiar pub dishes: chargrilled 28-day aged Herefordshire ribeye and chips (£14.50) or slow-roasted pork belly with mustard crackling (£12.50), for example.
