Irony is almost overwhelming as Shoreditch's once feted minimalist original returns to its (almost) former name after a brief spell as a Nuevo Latino restaurant/bar, but is reinvented as an old-school boozer. Instead of kitschy cool, however, the owners have oddly opted for unreconstructed, chain-pub decor. On entering through a revolving wooden door, punters are met by a riot of framed butterfly collections, repro Victorian portraits and military prints, model ships and standard lamps, beneath a stucco ceiling painted fuchsia pink. A semi-circular bar dominates, serving draught Red Stripe, Erdinger, Kirin, Guinness, Crest, Munchen, Timothy Taylor and Bombardier, bottled Pacifico, Estrella, Hoegaarden and the like, plus wines and spirits. A blackboard menu boasts sausages and mash with onion gravy, salmon and haddock pie and other neo-traditional fare. Seating is at the vast bar, one of the numerous wooden tables and chairs, or in the small, carpeted lounge area beyond three stained-glass panels, their light bulb imagery an acknowledgement of this now rather unconvincing bar's former identity.

London's best review, food and drink news
I have to write 20 words to save my profile but it's late on Sunday so I'll have to log off. I promise to update this soon!
I went to this place on a saturday night once and heard some rasta guy djing who said he was with the bear family i believe. Anyway, it was the best dj set i've ever heard. He must've gotten so annoyed with me dancing right by the dj booth all night, but bless his soul - he was so lovely. The crowd is a mixture of Hoxtonites and clueless out of towners so it's quite a wierd mix. The venue itself is ok. The upstairs is spacious and has good food. Downstairs has the best dance floor in London. It's a lighted disco floor that is mismatched with everything else in the bar. DJ wise for this particular night, I'd give it 6 stars. For the venue, 4 stars.
