Now with its own grocer featuring dishes from the pub's shiny open-plan kitchen, the Clissold Arms' days as a stand-up-and-drink pub are long gone. Still, the front room has a cheerful communal table amid its mix of chairs, tables and sofas; there's separate outdoor seating areas for drinkers and diners too. The excellent range of beers is correctly poured and typically includes Harveys Sussex Bitter, London Pride, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Ruddles County, plus Addlestones cider on tap. If wine's more your thing, there's much of interest. Our last visit saw the blackboard promoting three rosés priced from £14.50-£25.95, nor will you regret ordering the great-value Western Cape chenin blanc at £13.95 a bottle.
