Run by the Meredith Group, which also owns the Bull in Highgate and Mayfair's Only Running Footman, the House manages to do cosy and classy at once. It's rarely empty, even on a wintry Tuesday night. Understated decor provides the backdrop: white walls, dark wood, a squishy leather sofa by the fire, and beautiful floral displays. A chalkboard lists half a dozen white and red wines as well as Champagnes while the full list also includes a short but interesting range of cocktails variously muddled, shaken, topped and stirred. There's a smart dining area round the other side of the bar where interesting and generally well-executed food can be enjoyed.
