The Martin Brothers have done a bang-up job of refurbishing the former Mucky Duck pub: wood sides and bottom, intricately carved settle, a mirror so vast half of it reaches into the mezzanine above. The details (stuffed swan, antlers, ship's bell) bring old-world solidity, while the cocktail list shows an eye for the modern. On draught we found Adnams bitter and Broadside, London Pride, Becks Vier, Lowenbrau and Hoegaarden alongside the Guinness. The wine list is huge – around 150 bins from all around the world, starting at £13 a bottle for Valencian red or white and stretching over £300 for Chateau Latour. Though, as they well know in this part of town, those big expense account lunches are a thing of the past.
