Lamb & Flag
A glance up Rose Street from Garrick Street after dark reveals a black street lantern throwing its light on to the frontage of the shamelessly traditional Lamb & Flag, Covent Garden’s best pub. Also accessed by an ancient narrow passageway, this pub wears its history on its sleeve, proudly displaying its classic boozer credentials of real ale and local memorabilia that adorn the walls. In summer, its upstairs sash windows allow some air into a space that can become stifling due to the pub’s popularity, but it’s still worth pitching up on the cobbles outside to soak up the atmosphere. Beers aren’t bad either; there’s an excellent line-up of mainly Young’s ales, supplemented by guests that typically include the likes of Bombardier, Courage Best and Ridley’s IPA. Pub grub and doorstep sandwiches are also served.
