Dukes Hotel
Tucked away by the lobby of the Duke’s Hotel, itself hidden away in a courtyard of St James’s Place, this discreet cocktail bar comprises four seating areas of striped walls and stately portraits. Settle into your leather chair with your complimentary nuts and nibbles and peruse the famed martini (£14.50) menu. House versions are based with Plymouth gin or Potocki vodka, frozen for 24 hours; eight Modern Classics also involve U’Luvka and Królewska vodkas, with Iranian saffron, fresh passion fruit juice or ‘copious’ olive juice. These quality brands are also used in the 25 Classics (£13-£16). Vintage malts (McPhail’s 1948, £50) and cognacs are another speciality. Some 20 wines include a Châteauneuf-du-Pape Domaine du Grand Tinel (£9.50/ £40) and a merlot Faucon Bleu (£6.50/£23).
