Despite the continental bar furniture placed ambitiously outside in the unlikely event that any streaks of sunlight should deign to invade this dark locality, the Dickens is as English as they come.
This is yet another SE1 pub with terrific beer: regulars crowded around the dark wood bar may get to choose from the unusual likes of Goffs Tournament, Nethergate Suffolk County Best, Adnams Extra and Mighty Oak's Oscar Wilde Mild. Further inspection of the interior reveals a wonderful collection of caricatures from the novels of the man himself: look carefully and you might spy the two Wellers and Mr Micawber, for instance, each with a relevant quotation.
The menu includes gammon steak with eggs, pineapple and chips, which should give you an idea as to the other available choices.
