A traditional pub atmosphere prevails at the Prince Arthur, thanks to the no-nonsense furnishings of heavy wooden tables and dark green leather stools; many punters ignore the 'gastro' leanings and treat it purely as a place for a pint. The food disappointed on our visit - which is puzzling, as that's not in keeping with other Martin Brothers venues such as the Gun and the Cadogan Arms.
Fish pie was topped with garish yellow cheese and tasted offputtingly close to a ready meal, while stilton and onion tart suffered from greasiness and heavy, slightly burnt pastry. Both came with the same dreary frisée lettuce salad. The rest of the menu consists of standards including fish and chips, burgers and steaks.
We had to ask for the prix fixe promoted online as we weren't offered it - bad form in any case, but worse since the carte prices are a tad steep for the quality of ingredients and the lack of finesse displayed by the kitchen. Other niggles included a half-hour wait to pay the bill, despite asking for it twice - the pub wasn't overly busy but the waiters were harried and inattentive. A lacklustre experience, but hopefully an atypical one.

The food is fantastic, the service friendly, if a little slow on occasion and they have a great Wednesday night menu making it exceptional value. Otherwise it can work out expensive, but the portions and the quality is worth it I think.
Small, cosy, local. Stumbled upon this place on a rare jaunt to Hackney. Mulled wine, fantastic food and a great buzz. Excellent!
Really noisy and incredibly expensive food for a small cramped pub.
Stopped in for a drink at the Prince Arthur and ended up staying for 3 course dinner! The food was fantastic, the best fish and chips in town!!!
Great little place, really cool and relaxed atmoshphere and the food is sooo tasty!! I love the burger, best in London. Great selection of drinks and the service is always friendly and professional. Fast becoming my favourite pub in East London.
Pretentious average food.
Full of Hipsters.
12% service charge.
Good luck.
