With branches in Bristol, Reading and Cardiff, and a mission 'to create internationally inspiring gourmet dishes and exceptional freshly brewed beers', Zerodegrees brings a young clientele to its sunken restaurant and two-floor bar on the edge of Blackheath.
It's an open-plan space, the preparing of fire-roasted pizzas providing entertainment when the match isn't occupying the large screen at one end: you may have to wait for a dining table or book the TV sofas on big-game nights.
Behind the bar, huge copper vats contain the four house brews, uniformly priced in half-pint (£1.60), pint (£2.90) and four-pint (£10.95) measures. There's a Czech-type pilsner, a US-style pale ale, a chocolatey black lager and a Belgian-influenced wheat variety; all are available in take-home kegs. Special and seasonal ales, and fruit beers are also produced, but the bar area could do with signage so that you can assess your options more easily.
