Albannach flies the flag of Scotland as deep in enemy territory as you can get: right on Trafalgar Square.
The decor is sleek and modish, but the house speciality is welded to tradition: the drinks list here is all about the whiskies. A map on the menu details the origins of the Highland and Island malts, the likes of a 16-year-old, sherry-matured, cask-strength Bowmore (£13), Bruichladdich 15-year-old (£9) and Bunnahabhain 1968 Auld Acquaintance (£65).
The menu isn't capped at Scots varieties: there are also Irish and Japanese whiskies, along with bourbons. The cocktails (around £8) aren't solely reliant on the Gaelic grain, but you may as well investigate a Smoky Martini (Tanqueray or Smirnoff Black with a spoonful of Laphroaig 10-year-old) or Albannach Stag (Pampero Special rum, fresh berries, angostura bitters, lime, ginger ale).
Salmon and haggis feature prominently among the decent if pricey food offerings.

Facilities
Tables outdoors ( 5, terrace ), Function rooms ( 150 capacity ), Disabled ( toilet ), Dress ( smart casual ), Wireless internetGreat food and service, had the private room for my dads birthday, which had good facilities but the air conditioning was broken so a little warm, that said the waiter gave us a fan and opened all windows.
good vibe, great food and a very friendly service. all the small plates are excellent and my beef wellington, a real throw back in time, was superb.
The manager came over to me today and offered me and my partner a glass of champagne on the house! just because she recognised me! So I feel duty-bound to post a review for the many occasions I've visited this lovely place.
(But briefly!)
I simply can't get enough of the delicious traditional soup, the cullen skink, and last week, I went for the Elwy Valley lamb cutlets, which were so tender I might make that my choice for the next few weeks.
And where the wine list is excellent, the whisky list is insane. They must have over 200 single malts.
Which is why I always come back.
Not very original, but anybody visiting Albannach will soon find they too will want to come back. And often!
+ Classy, modern, with tasty food, charming stuff, fast service.
- Noisy, a bit overpriced service charge (12,5%) and NO GUINESS beer?????
But we would definietly go again when we are in London
Couple from Germany
An odd evening of pluses and minuses. On the plus side, the staff are charming and attentive and the food is pretty much OK. The major minus is the fact that this has to be the noisiest place in London. The restaurant is in the bar and the deafening din from a bunch of beer-swilling M&S-suited oiks quite ruined the evening for us.
