Time Out says Rate it
This landmark pub on the edge of the heath has been satisfying visitors since the 1600s. After a yomp around the parkland, the food and drink at the Hare & Billet is welcome, with solid dishes such as gammon steaks or sausage and mash (two meals for £6) offered alongside a few choice wines.
However, it seems that most drinkers still come here for a refreshing pint after a stroll across the wilderness outside. British ales might include Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen, with a couple of Leffes and other popular Belgian labels by the bottle. A television offers entertainment, but the pub doesn't have to push the boat out too far to keep the tills ringing.
