Part of the Ruby mini-chain of cocktail bars, Idlewild graced the cover of our Bars, Pubs & Clubs Guide a couple of years back, and remains something of a looker. Billing itself as a 'pub deluxe', this artistically designed joint attracts a well-turned-out crowd looking for a little more of a night out than most of the other local drinking holes can provide.
Downstairs, it's comparatively mellow, an ambience due in no small part to the presence of a full menu (pork belly, poshed-up shepherd's pie) from which to choose. Things are usually a little livelier upstairs, as drinkers select from a cultured, traditional cocktail list to a DJ-built soundtrack at weekends.

When the bill came, all the cheapest mains had been included in the offer regardless of who ordered them and the more expensive mains charged individually - adding a good £30 to our bill. This was really disappointing and left a nasty taste in our mouths, especially as the waitress refused to discuss it.
A large group of us went to Idlewild for dinner a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was fantastic! The Manager and bar staff couldn't do enough to help us and the whole experience was very easy, from booking to eating, and totally enjoyable!
The whole group were impressed with the menu and the quality of food.
This is the first review I've ever written for a restaurant - I felt I had to because the Idlewild seems to have received some pretty harsh ones to date which I felt just weren't true. My advice would be - give it a shot! It was great for us!
Lovely local place to have! High quality food, for a really good price. Nice and relaxing, and fabulous cocktails. We go there on a weekly basis and would recommend it to anyone!!
Having moved to the area before Christmas, I had high hopes that Idlewild would be a great local. Unfortunately on our second visit there my girlfriend got food poisoning after eating lamb. Passing this off as bad luck, a few months later we visited on a Sunday evening. I had venison. Cue the worst bout of sickness I have ever had - a night spent clutching the toilet. It's a shame and maybe you can be unlucky twice. I'm not prepared to risk it though
