This blue tile-fronted former neighbourhood boozer is stripped down and ready for business. Between mealtimes, young professionals break away from freelance duties to stake out a scuffed-wood table and sup pints of Sharp's Doom Bar, Ubu Purity, Sambrook's Wandle and Atlantic IPA (the selection changes regularly).

Bitburger is the best option as far as draught lager goes; the wine choice is extensive. A daily-chalked menu lists about 20 dishes. Standards are high, but then so are the prices: Thai green chicken curry with steamed rice was £12.50 on one visit.

Seating outside lends itself to summer evenings, although there's little to look at but other houses.

Have to agrgee with the last review. I think the food is gorgeous and I would go out of my way to eat at this pub. But they are taking the mickey. Turning the pub garden into a house will take away its best feature. And they are also trying to build another floor of flats on top of the pub as well. Wonder if the end game is not to have a pub there at all ?

Food is a bit pricey but it is worth it. Not sure what they think they are doing by applying to build a house over the pub garden??? Will spoil it.

I really could not disagree more with this review! I take heed to TimeOut reviews most of the time, but really think this rating is far, far under the five stars that I would have awarded this place.

I live just a few blocks away and I regard the Havelock Tavern as my local. The ever-changing menu always reps sophisticated versions of humble, home-cooked favourites. If you're lucky enough to stop by on a night when the fish cake or ox cheek stew are on the menu, you'll be a happy camper. I would warn, however, to stay away from their asian dishes. The kitchen turns out only the highest quality in French/British comfort food, yet its attempts at fusion nearly always miss the mark.

Wow! I really am at a loss by this low ranking. I consider this the best restaurant I have ever had the pleasure of visiting.

Extremely pretentious clientele, rude staff, massively overrated and overpriced food. Save your money folks!!! :)
