Despite its upper-crust appearance, the BBC welcomes all-comers to its clubhouse. The bowls club's history has been sensitively preserved, with a warren of small, wood-panelled rooms decorated with rosettes, chesterfields and an old wooden scoreboard.

The bar itself is cosy and crowded, with a fire in winter; draught Ubu, Peroni and Grolsch are served along with bottled Honey Dew, Fursty Ferret and Abbot.

Food is a focus, with sharing platters of cured meats, comfort-food mains and generous Sunday lunches.

There's plenty of space in the back rooms to dine in comfort - space enough, in fact, for two snooker tables. A crazy-paved front terrace accommodates smokers.

I've visited a couple of times recently and found the staff friendly, attentive and very obliging. Good food, great atmosphere, I'd definitely recommend a visit.

Love this place.

So funky and quirky and a really cool atmosphere. The summer is great when people hang out in the front garden. I like the retro nature of the decor, the type of place you don't get it Clapham right now, where it is all cheese and neon.

Highly recommend party bookings here, i live in Balham and went after popping in to the tried and trusted Be At one next door, and will defo have my bday there next time....
