Come here for the drinks (spirits and mixers, predictable lagers, the dreaded Magners) or the service (distracted at best) and you'll leave both quickly and disappointed.
But although it's not as cool or as interesting as it thinks it is, and there's always a danger that you'll find yourself surrounded by wearying indie scenesters up from Camden for the night, this Highgate pub is not without appeal.
The chief attractions are the string of themed DJ nights, highlighted by the retro Gerry's Joint; the casual Sunday music sessions with the excellent Walbourne Brothers; the popular monthly movie quiz; and the jukebox, a pleasing mix of canonical rock-snob classics and unexpected obscurities. Regulars include Shane MacGowan, for whom the place appears to be something of a second home on his visits to London.
