This contemporary Japanese izakaya attracts a loyal, monied clientele. The 40-deep saké selection is as attractive as any in town - there's even Azure Ginjoshu Tosatsuru, sourced from a spring at the bottom of the North Pacific - but it's the cocktails that keep the chattering shoppers coming back.
Three sparkling 'kaze' types include the house spritzer (Ume-shu plum wine, prosecco, orange and angostura bitters), while four long ('mizu') and six short ('tsuchi') varieties include Ega-nya, made with Whitley Neill gin, shisho and mint leaves, aloe vera, fresh lemon and lime.
Martinis and daiquiris show another touch of south-east Asia, with Thai-spiced mango used with abandon. Kirin Ichiban and Asahi Super Dry and Black comprise the beers, but note that while the snacks are cheaper than the dishes served to diners at the restaurant tables (drinkers are confined to the bar area), 'cheaper' should not be taken to mean 'cheap'.
