Suited to its surroundings in tipping-point East London, the Dalston Superstore is a carefully indifferent, confidently cool and slightly camp New York-styled ersatz dive bar split between two floors, clad in cement, brick and steel vents. The decor is enlivened by fluoro flashes, graffiti and a long, wooden bar, but the designers have taken a casual, less-is-more approach to the place.
The food and drinks lists are just as spare: beer in familiar bottles, a brief cocktail list, and substantial burgers, sandwiches, salads and cakes. In studiously aloof fashion, there's no website on which to discover what's on; but turn up unbidden and you might stumble into a club night, an exhibition after-party or some other faintly arty event favoured by the moustache-wearing, fixed-wheel-bicycle-riding clientele. Expect to queue at weekends.

It's within two minutes' walk of Gillet Square, the grub is consistently good (always a decent veggie option) and we always feel welcome even though we're a couple of middle aged provincials among mostly young urban sophisticates.
went after a lapse of a year and was completely apalled by the service, my friend took a bottle of wine back as it was really not very nice and offered to pay the difference for a more expensive bottle and was refused. Completely realise this is not a wine bar but you should not make your customers feel like they never want to step over your door again
Great venue. Very quirky, fashionable and artistic. Downsides are sometimes not being about to find a seat as its a popular place and also the price of food is a little higher than what I would expect to pay.
Music is always great.
I 've been privileged enough to never have experienced any kind fo discrimination in London until I queued for Dalston Superstore ... the jumped up moron on the door (see below reviews) was so rude! Asked for a 'password' and told us we weren't gay enough... wtf?! Will avoid in future - crap start to a night out
I couldn't get in because I was TOO GAY! OMG! That guy on the door I think was a little perturbed by my 'presence'! The poor little thing.
Anyway, suffice to say, glad I was refused because I had a 'whale'...of time in the Vortex with some real swingers! LOVE and SUPREME HUGS FROM THE GREAT LESLIE oh and the doorman, see you next time and stop being so shy!
I hadn't been to the Superstore in over a year. We went back last night and we had a fantastic time. Rolled up (fashionably?) late at about 12:30am and only had to queue for a couple of minutes. The door staff and all the staff inside were very friendly. Fantastic music, fun lights, quick service at the bar (if a bit pricey for the spirits), a great vibe downstairs, a very mixed and friendly crowd, everyone was just there to have fun and dance. Looking forward to going back again. I'll be back much sooner this time.
Didn't know bars like this existed in London. Made me sad to see how the doorman behaved. Depressingly nasty, a parody of himself. It's tough because I have good memories of the superstore from when it first opened. I hope the management deal with this guy soon.
Never met such a rude man at the door, with a beard. Second time i tried to get in there wirh my friends. So rude and unfriendly. I will never ever get back there!!!
Went last week with some friends, we are all straight and got in no problem, maybe we look gay. Anyway gay or straight I thought it was a great venue with good music and friendly people.
When trying to get into the club with my boyfriend (yes, I'm a gay guy) and more friends (some of them gay, some not) we were refused the entry arguing we were too much people. Basically, we didn't look gay enough to get in.
Humiliating to get refused in a gay bar being gay, and not for dress code!
Totally love this place - hot boys, hot barstaff and always loads of friendly faces! It is a gay bar so if you don't make it past the door then there is a reason ...see hilarious comments below!
Some friends and I were refused entry here on Saturday night by a pretentious little doorman fashioning a bad moustache. We were turned away because we weren’t, and I quote: “Gay enough”....errr.....enough said!
Avoid this horrid, jumped up excuse for a bar!
- It’s an insult to East London!!!!!
We went to Vortex Bar too and had a great night!
Rather got the Impression of hetrophobia after twat on door refused admission to me and my girlfriend when asking us to give the password on the theme night after first asking us 'you do know this is a gay club.'... Very boring very uncool .... Ahh perhaps that was the
password...I'll remember next time... Went around corner to vortex bar and had great unpretentious time, so avoid unless you are pretentious and gay.
