Housed in a former art gallery and shop, this inappropriately named hangout - it's actually right on Broadway Market - has won a loyal following since it opened at the end of 2008.
The owners have said that it's modelled on a now-defunct bar in New York's East Village, and you can kind of see what they mean without having been there. Certainly, the menu's mix of notable beers (Brooklyn on tap, along with a number of other excellent bottled American imports) with worthwhile cocktails (rooted in tradition, but modified for the modern drinker) is unusual for the UK but pretty common across the ocean.
The vibe is low-key, but atmosphere develops easily in the dimly lit, L-shaped room as the place fills, which it does most evenings. Events across the main bar and the downstairs room include regular gigs and a knitting club.

Facilities
Tables outdoors ( 4, pavement ), Babies and children admitted ( until 8pm ), Function room ( 50 capacity ), Entertainment ( DJs & bands 8pm Fri-Sun ), Wireless internetAwful service, would not recommend to anyone! My mate booked a table for her birthday several months in advance and paid a £50 deposit. We turned up at 8 (the time of the booking) to be told "oops we've double booked you" no effort was made to accommodate us or compensate us for the massive inconvenience. We later found out that the group sat at our table were friends of the manager.Talking to others in the bar it was clear that this was not the first time! I would never go back to Off Broadway after the way they treated us! DO NOT BOOK TO COME HERE!
Yeah, it not cheap, shot what is these days is Hackney. I go to weathersp**n if I'm broke, but can only take so much of that till i need to be stimulated with some passion and proper cocktails. Off Broadway, is a great hang out during the week, the barmen are a bit out of their minds, but that is a good thing, at least they are fun to chat with. I think the Mexican food is great and total authentic. Plus I get a nice warm feeling with two of their cocktails. This is an American bar for sure, it almost makes me want to tip them - almost ;)
Yeah but their beer is imported from the states, and not standard tasteless US fizz along the lines of Coors or Budweiser either. I found the selection of everything there, especially the myriad bottles of spirits, pretty impressive considering the size of the place. In comparison with the staff of most places, the people behind the bar seemed engaged and funny and most importantly happy to be doing their job. A new favourite!
Rip off!! A pint is £4 and vodka diet coke £6. Add the two burritos which arrived wrapped in tin foil as all good food does and the total bill was £30. Come on! We're in Hackney not Mayfair. Show some respect to your customers and stop overcharging to maximise profit. What's happened to Broadway Market. I used to enjoy it down there but now they're all about the money as everywhere else. You used to be different. Not worth the effort anymore.
