Although Carnivale's sign is illegible, the converted church the bar occupies is prominent enough. The entrance leads into an airy, open space, with a modest stage immediately to the right and splash-art paintings overlooking a solitary music stand.
Cinema seats surrounded by retro seven-inch single sleeves (Bananarama, Adam & the Ants) provide pop-culture comforts; the bar at the rear also serves the little rectangle of terrace at the back.
Pints of Erdinger and Pilsner Urquell are served promptly by a good-looking bunch of staff, and food is a cut above standard bar fare (handmade pizzas, fillet steak, roast duck); the expansive mezzanine is a lovely space in which to dine.
Drop by for Monday night comedy, or open-mic acoustic music on Tuesdays.
