This venture, named after the latitudes between which wine is produced, is a dark, concentrated basement for serious contemplation of wine and food matching. It's a real joy to be able to sample three or four distinctive, high-quality wines and come out blinking into the daylight still sober (wines are sold in almost homeopathic measures of 75ml, or 150ml). The list includes 15 each of reds and whites, from Barossa Valley shiraz to Corsican vermentino, on the ever-changing list.
The food menu is just as enthusiastically prepared, with ingredients of a high quality, served at City prices: fillets of pan-fried red mullet come with a bouillabaisse-like sauce of clams; a plate of charcuterie, Spanish and Italian, gives a range of flavours and textures as varied as the wines. The service is fastidious.
