'Natural' wines are still something of a rarity, and it's more unusual still to see a whole carte devoted to them. Many are available by the glass or carafe, and an enthusiastic sommelier is on hand to guide drinkers as to how 'natural' methods affect cloudiness, body and how expressive the character is. There are also upscale French ciders (Eric Bordelet's elegant 2007 brut, for example, served in a flute) and a few sherries.
Food is on-trend in size - there are small plates of tapas/cicchetti drawing on French, Italian and Spanish influences, plus charcuterie plates and a few pan-Euro 'main plates'.
With its modish, New York-style make-over (bare brick walls, functional furniture, industrial-chic lights hung low over tables), Bar Battu is simply a very nice place to drink some seldom seen, well-chosen wines and thoughtful food helped along by City-slick service.
