A sweeping, pewter-clad bar dominates the ground floor of this art deco pub; behind the bar there's a big and busy open kitchen. Original 1930s oak panelling lines the walls, yet it's light and refreshingly modern in look.
Cheery staff intercept you as you walk in and guide you to a table, but it's still a proper pub, with hand-pulled pints including Sambrooks Wandle from Battersea, Purity Pure Gold and Adnams Broadside.
But most people are here to dine: a salad of mixed beets, soft goat's cheese and pickled walnuts makes a good start; rib steak is a cut above, accompanied by chips of the skinny, french fry variety. There's a good selection of wines and a diverting Wayne Collins cocktail, but it's the congenial atmosphere and the friendly service that are the real draw.
