Gastropub

Hampstead shoppers drop into this bright corner for light meals, hearty gastropub fare and more sophisticated choices (crisp-skinned pollock with samphire and nuggets of crayfish, for example), plus special deals such as Red Poll beef burger with chips and a glass of house wine or OJ (£7). Vegetarians might opt for broccoli and pine nut wellington.

It's worth forgoing the (not bad) wine list to explore the beers as the pub brews its own ales, and there's a great choice of bottled options, including Coopers and Little Creatures from Australia, and Belgian raspberry beer Bacchus.

Service can be too laid-back, not least because staff seem to enjoy each other's company, but if you're happy to chill, the Horseshoe makes a relaxing afternoon destination.

I am a local Hampstead resident using most of the local pubs and bars in the area. By a mile The Horseshoe is my favourite place to chill and relax whether that be with a nice Camden Wheat Beer (delicious) or some excellent food prepared freshly on the premises. The bar is relaxed and inviting with staff who are friendly, cool and good at what they do.

The food is consistently of a high standard and i know for a fact that every dish is prepared to order. Recently I ate a Sunday roast at another local establishment and was sorely disappointed at the standard. The Horseshoe however delivers a significantly better meal and I ate there with 10 friends on a busy Sunday afternoon and each one of us spoke highly of the standard of each dish.

There is a great range of lagers, ales and wines. The local Camden Brewery does a nice range of stuff and their Wheat Beer is by far my favourite.

Long may the Horseshoe live.
