A bold red and silver star adorns the wall behind the stage in this intimate boozer, which has fast become the epitome of scruffy East End cool. A young, up-for-it crowd enjoy a laid-back, pubby vibe, but most of them are really here for the music: low-key gigs from big bands and youthful hopefuls, and an eclectic yet funky-fresh line-up of disco to house to indie nights, burlesque freak shows and wacky quiz nights (cash for the winners, free pasta for everyone).
Watch out for madcap bash Bastard Batty Bass on monthly Thursdays, and various free or cheap sessions from Europe's best underground DJs, such as Mark 7, Ray Mang and Mulletover resident Geddes. The Tuesday-night quiz is a big hit with locals, and not solely because of the free food; Sundays are all about tasty roasts.
