This family-friendly, CAMRA-decorated pub in a residential street succeeds thanks to its simple formula of providing decent drinks in a comfortable atmosphere.
With London Pride and three guest ales from such breweries as Harveys, Brakspear and St Austell, plus Leffe blond on tap, this is a pub that hasn't let down its guard as far as beer is concerned. The wine list is heavy on organic fair-trade varieties, some of which come from Namaqualand in South Africa.
The pub's all-things-to-all-people approach extends to stone-baked pizzas (pretty good), a covered terrace (appealing), a pool table (competitive), a weekly quiz (ditto), high chairs and toys for kids (laudable), DJs on Sundays (mellow) and local art (largely rubbish). Good stuff, all told.
