The Apollo Project - the pop-up arts and entertainment venue that has opened in a disused video shop on Norwood Road in Herne Hill and which we first featured here - has been a tremendous success. I've been in twice and walked past on numerous occasions and there has always been a large crowd taking part in interesting free events and generally helping give SE24 a real buzz and sense of community.
Sadly, it all comes to an end next week as the lease for the shop runs out, but if you get the chance, you should pop down and see what can be done if you have the right vision, energy and belief. Tomorrow evening (Thursday 25th June) Time Out's own William Blake artist, John Riordan, will be holding an exhibition, and there will also be performances from local bands Djevara, Lambeth Wind Orchestra, She Makes War and Crumbling Ghost. Oh, and there'll be a free bar. Check it out before it's gone for good, and maybe be inspired.

i agree you got to try these things. I am thinking of having a pop up furniture shop on Rosendale rd..happy for anyone to join me.
Hi Candy
That's harsh and a little mean, these are young kids trying to make things a little more interesting in the area. Even if you despise them for the crime of being students, surely you' d agree this is better than having just another empty, smashed-up shop in Herne Hill?
And if you really don't like what they are doing, why not have a go yourself?
That's funny because everytime I've walked past the place and the two occasions I've gone in, it seems to be overpopulated with University of Arts London students peddling their wares and filling the programme with replicas of themselves and some tokenistic pictures of local kids stuck on the wall to demonstrate a local connection.
