The Walkie Talkie building – or 20 Fenchurch Street as it's officially known – has had a hard time in its short life. It only cropped up on London's skyline in 2014 but since then it's melted cars with its solar glare, created a wind tunnel on the street and now its been named the ugliest building in the UK.
For its annual Carbuncle Cup award, Building Design magazine asked readers to vote for their most hated buildings in the UK, before whittling it down to a shortlist of six buildings that were lacking in the looks department. Four of the shortlisted buildings were in London, including Parliament House in Lambeth and Woodward Hall in North Acton. But even a YMCA building in Waltham Forest that the judges said looked like a prison couldn't beat the Walkie Talkie to the top spot, which pretty much says it all.
