The first trailer for Danny Boyle’s ‘Trainspotting 2’ has dropped. If you can call 40 seconds with just a glimpse of the characters and no dialogue a trailer. What do we learn? Not much. We see the Trainspotting squad – Renton, Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie standing on a train platform in sunny Scotland. Which tells us that despite their less than healthy lifestyles, all four characters have survived the 20 years since the original. And that’s about it. Boyle hasn’t picked a soundtrack yet – Iggy Pop’s ‘Lust for Life’ from the first film plays over the trailer.

The 'Trainspotting' sequel has been a long time coming. Danny Boyle and Ewan McGregor famously fell out over the casting of Leonardo DiCaprio rather than McGregor in ‘The Beach’. The two have now patched up their differences with all four leads returning: McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle. The plot is said to be very loosely inspired by ‘Porno’, Irvine Welsh’s ‘Trainspotting’ sequel. 'T2' is still shooting in Edinburgh, and is out on January 27. Keep an eye on timeout.com/film for a first-look review sometime before that.
