  • Prospero's Tavern is set in the wonderfully decorated Wonderground on the Southbank, in a huge wooden building set in the round. The idea of Prospero's Tavern is a nice one, but the theme seems to be awkwardly expanded around other acts including a couple from the Titanic, a reformed pirate/banker and a hula hooping Elvis. Plus three of the acts are singers, which is funny, but maybe not enough to compromise a substantial chunk of the show, out of about 10 acts which don't create a narrative. For £25 a ticket, I was expecting hours of wonderful and magical cabaret. Thus, while the individual acts were often impressive, we were disappointed to find ourselves back on Southbank about an hour and 15 mins later. Considering how many people had been crammed into this area (and it was a sold out performance), this feels like a lot of money to pay for a relatively short show.
