Robert Hampson, Professor of Modern Literature at Royal Holloway, University of London, will compare three representations of captains' wives in Marlow's 'Chance' and in Conrad's 'Typhoon' and 'Falk'. His colleague, Sophie Gilmartin, will talk about her current book project which follows the lives of two women who were on board different ships during the winter of 1856 off Cape Horn.
