The spirit of Smash Hits lives on at Peter Robinson’s marvellous website popjustice.com, which has just launched a series of ‘Pop Justice Idols’ – spoof children’s books telling the stories of Madonna (‘A Girl Called Madonna’), Robbie Williams (‘A Boy Called Robbie’) and Eminem (you get the idea) in a winking, faux-naive style. Priced at a pocket-money-friendly £3.99 each, they’re published by The Friday Project, a new company whose remit is to ‘turn the internet’s best-known brands into the world’s finest books’ and who recently announced the appointment of notorious ex-Waterstone’s buyer Scott Pack as Commercial Director. The Pop Justice Idols boast wonkily geometric illustrations from David Whittle and are very funny indeed.
