The veteran cabaret performer shares some of her favourite photos with Time Out
Cult cabaret diva Ursula Martinez has been taking her clothes off on stage for years. Ahead of her latest event, Ursula Martinez: My Stories, Your Emails at the Soho Theatre (runs until March 10 2012), the 'Duckie' and 'La Soirée' veteran shares some of her favourite photos and stories, from childhood to her new show, exclusively with Time Out.
'Mum and Dad, I couldn’t have done it without you’
‘I still thoroughly enjoy what I do, and am still able to take my clothes off on stage with confidence. I’m aware that a lot of my confidence comes from the fact that my body conforms to contemporary Western ideals of female beauty; tall, slim, leggy etc. But “45 plus” is not on that list! That said, I also work on my confidence. I eat well, aim to do a bit of exercise every day (which I don’t actually achieve) and try not to stay out too late. But I’m not in any way a health- or gym-freak. I guess to a large extent, I simply have to thank my parents for giving me good genes. It always comes back to the parents. Thanks Mum, thanks Dad, I couldn’t have done it without you…’
