Performances and backstage interviews from the gig
As a tribute to the late director Anthony Minghella, a revival of his production of Puccini's heart-breaking Japanese tale of faith, hope and not a lot of charity. Visually stunning sets and costumes abound, with evocative references to Far Eastern theatre traditions. Judith Howarth again sings the title role, with Bryan Hymel as her feckless husband (Pinkerton), Brian Mulligan (Sharpless) and Christine Rice (Suzuki). Edward Gardner conducts.
