    Why did you choose the trombone?
    ‘As a young kid I found the trombone the most visually attractive instrument.’

    Do you ever wish you played another instrument?
    ‘Not professionally, though I wish I could play the piano well.’

    Where do you sit in the orchestra?
    ‘Right at the back, near the timpani.’

    What can you hear where you sit?
    ‘A lot of timpani.’

    How much is your Instrument worth?
    ‘About £1,500.’

    Your favourite pieces for trombone?
    ‘Big orchestral symphonies.’

    When are you playing next in London?
    ‘On Thursday at the Royal Festival Hall, playing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.’

    Tell us a joke about trombone players
    ‘Our principal trumpeter was once asked what he would be if he wasn’t a musician. He said “a trombonist”.'
