You can’t deny that all musical tastes are catered for in this city, but you may sometimes wish there was a party that had a little bit of everything – from hip hop and minimal to folk and rock.
Well, fret no longer. There is. It’s called Mindie and the promoters couldn’t be more on the ball with their mix-and-match music policy. ‘We could never focus on one thing with so many exciting acts and DJs,’ says Kemi (one half of the Mindie Hussie promoters). ‘The reason we started Mindie was to open people’s eyes to all different types of music.’
She’s not wrong. Celebrating their second birthday this week, they’ve got all bases covered both live- and DJ-wise: hip hop and soulful jazz from Cynical And The Street Orchestra; folktronica with James Yuill; Kase (our own UK version of the US hip hop duo Cool Kids); DJs playing electro-boogaloo, urban, rock ’n’ roll, techno – everything you need for a party, and certainly enough to make you dizzy.
Did we mention it’s free too? ‘We moved our party from Saturday to Friday, so we could make it free. To give something back to everyone who’s supported us,’ adds Kemi, gleefully. Now, if only a few more promoters could follow their lead…
