Duke Dumont bags a Diesel U-Music gong
Jordan Jarrett-Brown, Movement
‘An amazing year for drum ’n’ bass, especially with the next generation of producers like Alix Perez, Benny Page, Jamal, Zero Tolerance, Break, Sabre, Redeyes… and Commix are really gonna take the dance music scene by storm.’
David McHugh, Notting Hill Arts Club
‘The main cultural force will flow from self-expressing 16 to 22-year-olds and their clothes in hip hot styles mixing punk (pins and DIY pinned-on stuff), pink (the pop star and the attitude) and Penelope Pit Stop (lots of toys and games influences, like the Cassette Playa clothes label).’
Namalee, Super-Super
‘Mash-up or simply mashing up will be even more important in 2007. My background is mixed race (half Singhalese, half Dutch) and it used to confuse me, but I’ve come to realise that differences are there to be celebrated. It seems really old-fashioned to just be into one thing now.’

Neil Boorman, Neu_Noise at the 333
‘Crazy new theatrical band Chrome Hoof are like a cross between Hawkwind, ESG and Sun Ra… prog-electro that makes all those nu ravers look like a bunch of primary school jokers. Back in the clubs, rave fashion trends will progress seamlessly from the current fluoro spandex of mid-’90s Su Pollard to the more muted touchy-feely neon fur of Zig & Zag.’
Mr C, Superfreq, The End
‘The rise of the girl! There are so many great female DJs and producers around now – Anja Schneider, Scarlett Etienne, Jennifer Cardini, Dollz and Play, and Dinky and Heidi from Phonica come to mind – and there’ll be loads more by this time next year.’
Jas, Simian Mobile Disco
‘New rave will disappear. It’s a bit of a misnomer and most of the bands tagged with that are not related with it. Bands in clubs aren’t going to go away, it’s fucking brilliant. Fabric Live will still have the best nights and Barden’s Boudoir will continue to be the best underground venue.’
Floss Daily, Teens of Thailand
‘Silverlink is one of the most talented people in electronic music and he deserves to do well because his stuff is mind-blowing.’
Norman Jay, Good Times
‘More and more people will go out but to smaller venues. It’s tougher for younger DJs to break through, but I like the sound of the Halo boys and the Loud Minority collective. And I’ve got to get in a plug for our first festival, Good Times In The Park: a carnival-style all-dayer in Finsbury Park on Saturday June 23, the same weekend as Glastonbury!’
Cauis Pawson, Young Turks And Troubled Minds
‘It’s going to be all about that Bloggers Delight stuff, consisting of people who write MP3 blogs. It’s already the most influential, although perhaps not the most used, thing in music. Casper C [from Fluokids] and Skull Juice are really good ones – they’re gonna be pretty big. Duke Dumont is also going to do well. DJ-wise, a big new movement will be Brazilian or Angola-based. It’s not going to be Kaiser Chiefs-massive, but there are some big bands to come out of Angola. They’ve got grimey elements and all sorts.’
Gavyn Mytchel, Gallery resident DJ
‘Sander van Doorn will have a great year. He’s doing about two tracks a week at the moment (under four different names). No one’s making anything like the stuff he does – he’s really got his own sound.’
