Mary Poppins Pop-Up Restaurant Experience

Time Out says

Cor blimey, guvnor, it's only a Mary Poppins pop-up dining experience gracing the streets of ol' London town. And if you're thinking it seems a weird choice for a pop-up restaurant – we hear you. But hey, we've had an Alice in Wonderland experience, so why not Julie Andrews' liberty-taking, tooth decay-inviting, word-inventing nanny, too? We're assuming it's based on the 1964 Disney film rather than the original series of books published by P. L. Travers in the 1930s.

The night is hosted in a secret location, revealed to guests after they purchase tickets, but it's themed around the plush home of the Banks family, where Poppins elbows her way into the job of nanny for the two rather irksome children. The menu is being kept under wraps, but the organisers assure us it'll be 'much more than just a spoonful sugar', which is a relief. Make sure you behave yourself at the meal, though – Poppins doesn't take backchat kindly and will likely stuff you into her bottomless carpet bag if you're not careful.

Really, though, it's all about Dick Van Dyke's delightfully cliched and inaccurate chimey sweep, Bert, who should provide diners with a right ol' giggle or two at what should be a fun night. You can even try your hand at being a chimney sweep, guess what Mary's got in the ominous carpet bag and even fly a kite, just like in the film and everything.

The price tag of £60 may not be particularly supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, but it does cover a four-course dinner, say the organisers. And remember: no flying home on your umbrella if you've been drinking.
