This Mark Lane spot is from the Proud group - a chain perhaps best known for its live music space, Proud Camden. This City venue is part of a successful venture into the  cabaret scene, with sister venues both in Camden and down on the south coast, in Brighton.

There's an art deco, speakeasy feel to things here, with much of the cabaret following  aesthetic suit. Shows range from music, burlesque and vaudeville to circus acts, fire-play and risqué dance. Keep an eye out for DJ nights, too.

Food doesn't play second fiddle to the music. There's global influence, so expect Thai steamed mussels and sticky yakitori chicken skewers alongside fillet steaks served with black truffle butter, sea bass with a chilli and rosemary crust, and roasted turbot steak served with steamed samphire, salsify and hollandaise sauce.

The term dinner and a show rarely means you get to enjoy both at the same time, but at Proud Cabaret that is literally what you get! When I visited Proud in the City, my table was places directly next to the stage where I was able to enjoy three courses of fantastic food whilst watching three beautiful women dance over the course of two and a half hours, interspersed with superb presenting by comdian and performer Joe Marose.

The menu is fantastic and diverse - I enjoyed the eggs benedict (beautifully cooked eggs, though with slightly cold hollandaise!), followed by the Asian Style Black Cod, served on a bed of Egg Noodles and Choy Sum - possibly the best fish I have ever tasted and I am now obsessed with it if truth be told. My meal ended with a Pink Grapefruit and Pistachio Tart with Clotted Cream which was warm and gooey (whether this was the intention i don't know, but i enjoyed it all the same).

The dancers each performed unique dances, including fire eating, some audience participation (my poor friend was subjected to a pair or stocking thrust into her unsuspecting mouth - much to my absolute delight!) and a lot of glitter. The saying apparently goes - "if gin is the petrol of cabaret, glitter is the herpes" - i'd guess that's a pretty true statement, but it doesn't mean it's not all the more enjoyable as it goes flinging across the room!

The value for money at Proud is quite exceptional - at around £79pp for three courses and the full nights entertainment, i'd say it's the perfect place to go if you're celebrating a birthday, hen or stag do or even just a night out with friends or colleagues. I loved it, and would go as so far to say it might just have been one of the best nights i've had out in the City of London.

This sort of place is right up my street...! Food was great, the show was really enjoyable and the deep dark interior made it all the more sexy!

For a night out with a difference - I really recommend it! My only two comments were, we weren't allowed to take our wine with us which we didn't want to finish there and then. And also, there was a guy there who clearly drank anything in sight and he wasn't asked to leave. Luckily, once he'd removed his shirt and attempted to remove his trousers, his poor girlfriend took him home!

The waitresses were great though, welcoming and fun!

There are not enough stars!!! This venue desreves a 10. The whole experience is something that will stay with me for a long time. We were so excited to get a very late booking and ended up with the best table in the house. However there are no bad tables. The layout of the room is so that everyone can see and join in. Well done Proud Cabaret we will be back.................if we can get in.

Hey guys, I appreciate the messages but 'The Carnival' is now on at Leicester Square as Veronique is right, it didn't fit with the venue. Proud is a great place but simply not right for The Carnival, hence why we have moved the show. Please see http://www.leicestersquaretheatre.com/lqt/show/S1298396181/The+Carnival:+A+Circus+Opera for show times etc. I can understand that some people may have been disappointed as they bought tickets to The Carnival but we are now at a venue that is far more conducive to the performance. Also, people who have specific issues with Proud really hasn't any thing to do with us or our show so could you please get in touch with the venue as opposed to posting on a public site. Many thanks and best wishes to all! Chloé xx
