  • They say he hails from Southampton but really, the smart money says that DJ Format cut his teeth at block parties, NYC-side. Well-used to crate-digging, the freestyling beat-juggling of his own ‘33% B-Boy’, Ugly Duckling and Coldcut give way to unearthing funk and soul gems (to our ears, at least) such as Changes ‘Nostalgia 77’. Wah-wah guitars’n’slapping basslines aplenty (Julie Driscoll and Brian Augur’s ‘Indian Rope Man’ stands out among the brilliance). Quite simply, you want this CD.
