Gay and straight aficionados of post-punk pop flock to this sympathetic little hideaway, found down a short flight of steps at the Charing Cross end of the Strand. Along with a Wall of Shame containing portraits of regulars in Polaroid form, this red-fronted cabin of nostalgia is lined with black-and-white images of bygone stars (Siouxsie, Kate Bush, Ian Curtis); the Thunder jukebox cranks out music of a similar vintage.
Ahead as you walk in, a small bar counter is staffed by some of the sweetest pourers in town, dispensing pints of Heineken and John Smith's, bottles of Corona and Beck's, wines and simple cocktails.
Love seats in a side alcove aid communication, and there's more intimacy in the bar upstairs. Quiz nights and other themed evenings help maintain the bar's genuine sense of community.
