Here’s just a handful (there’ll be more in coming weeks).Richard Herring (pictured) performs ‘Ménage à Un’: ‘It’s loosely themed around loneliness, onlyness and onanism. I seem to be doing a lot of stuff about the nature of being alone. Stand-up is surely the most masturbatory of art forms.’ Previews include those at Watermans in Brentford (Fri), the Space (Sat), Canal Café Theatre (July 5), BAC (July 13), Red Rose Comedy Club (July 22) and Croydon Warehouse (July 23).
Nick Doody talks about alcohol, marrying into an American family, religion (and trying to escape it) and offence (what causes it and what should cause it) in ‘Before He Kills Again’ at the Comedy Tree in Putney (Wed 21), the Hen & Chickens (Tue), Rosemary Branch (Wed 28) and Red Rose Comedy Club (July 14). Feature continues
Danielle Ward, winner of the TO Best Newcomer Award, along with others gong takes ‘Take-a-Break Tales’ to the Hen & Chickens (Thur) and Etcetera Theatre (July 24 & 25).
Inder Manocha, once
described as ‘an Indian who’s more English than Kenneth Williams’,
takes on the myth of multiculturalism in ‘Unpronounceable’ at the
Etcetera Theatre (Monday, then July 3, 11, 18 & 25).
We Are Klang do their inspired crazy-gang-type stuff at the Betsey Trotwood (Wed 28), Canal Café (July 10), Trafalgar Studios (July 12) and the Space (July 26). They’ve called their new show ‘Klangbang’. This is sketch comedy without all the pretentious theatrical baggage that usually comes with it.
