Five storytelling comedy shows to see at the 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Can cancer be funny? Beth Vyse changes tack from her usual loony character comedy and turns to autobiographical storytelling in her latest offering. Vyse was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 28, and this is the story of how is changed her life.

4.20pm, Heroes @ The Hive.

Goldstein expertly mixes thought-provoking ideas about weighty topics with a riveting yarn. Sex (or, more specifically, our increasingly sexualised world) is often his subject of choice, and it pops up again in this tale about his trip to Burning Man.

9.30pm, Pleasance Courtyard.

Storytelling.

Charming performer Ryan Good (aka Ryan the Bisexual Lion) had a hit a couple of years ago with his frank, fascinating show about sexuality and sexual practice, ‘Sex With Animals’. This time he’s attempting to discover Cosmo magazine’s worst sex tip.

6.50pm, Underbelly Cowgate.

Stand-up. Storytelling. International.

This low-key, offbeat Kiwi storyteller bagged a Barry Award Best Newcomer nomination at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. She’s been supporting DIY-comedy favourite Josie Long on tour, and if you enjoy Long’s bashful storytelling you’ll be a fan of O’Loughlin’s in no time.

7.40pm, Underbelly Cowgate.

Character comedy. Storytelling. Second show.

Dapper storyteller Tom Neenan could have a real hit on his hands here. From what we’ve seen, his riveting sci-fi adventure ‘The Andromeda Paradox’ is full of whip-smart jokes, intricately woven plotlines and surprising twists. We can’t wait to see the finished version.

6.40pm, Pleasance Dome.
