The Cure

Robert Smith's seminal gloom-pop combo play one of their sporadic London gigs, which generally last upwards of two hours. True, they're not known for being a dynamic live act, but the quality of their material – 'Boys Don't Cry', 'The Love Cats', 'Friday I'm In Love' and loads more, all bellowed back by a fiercely adoring crowd who've nostalgically backcombed what's left of their hair – means The Cure are still well worth catching after all these years. There'll be plenty of

Bombay Bicycle Club

  • Critics choice

My, haven’t these four young men come a long way? It seems only yesterday that they were fresh-faced 16-year-olds bashing out melodic, winsome indie at Nambucca. Now they’re following an adventurous Number One record, ‘So Long, See You Tomorrow’, with their biggest home town show ever at Earls Court (capacity: a cool 20,000). It’s a big step up, but by the sounds of the new album they’re more than ready. First Foals, then Metronomy at Ally Pally, now this? Look out

Kasabian

  • Critics choice

Leicester's enormously popular, Glastonbury-headlining, swaggering good-time rockers show everyone what they're made of. Essentially that's baggy revivalism with a fixation on the Mondays, Primal Scream and Oasis, but with more epic, experimental, psych-rock flavourings and (just occasionally) some interesting electronic excursions. Massive chant-along choruses, sweaty jumping about and spilt beer should be the order of the day throughout this massive run of Brixton gigs – and,

Van Morrison

The legendary Celtic soul mystic's more recent output has flitted between blues, big band jazz, R&B, skiffle and folk, and at these three intimate shows he should stage a full-on raid through his deep, deep discography, including cuts from his seminal 'Astral Weeks' and 'Moondance' albums. Don't count on 'Brown Eyed Girl', though.

Smashing Pumpkins

  • Critics choice

Billy Corgan and his current crop of Pumpkins were last seen rocking Wembley Arena, so this intimate show (to preview material from not one but two new albums, both due in 2015) will be a real treat for devotees of the ’90s alternative scene. As well as the new stuff, the set should incorporate at least a few of the cracking singles that Smashing Pumpkins knocked out in their heavy-rocking heyday, back when gloomy old Bill had long hair and the original Pumpkins line-up were
