London has been reacting to the shock death of Michael Jackson, who died of a cardiac arrest in Los Angeles at the age of 50. The pop superstar was pronounced dead at UCLA Medical Centre at 10.26pm GMT and Jackson’s legendarily devoted followers have been holding vigils internationally. In London, a flashmob moonwalk is also set for 6pm tonight at Liverpool Street Station - and fans have already begun leaving floral tributes outside the Lyric Theatre in the West End, which is currently staging a production of Jackson’s 'Thriller Live' musical. We went down to the venue and captured the emergence of this shrine and focal point for both media and fans on camera.

The impact of the news has been especially dramatic online, with 30 per cent of Twitter's activity featuring tweets about the star. Music streaming sites such as We7 have created special compilations, and over on Spotify, fans have been sharing their love for his musical career with playlists like this 'Tribute to the King of Pop'.
Jackson’s death occurred just over two weeks before he was due to begin his unprecedented, largely sold-out run of 50 dates at the O2 Arena. Although it might not be the first thing on the mind of his fans, promoters AEG will be releasing a statement to ticketholders shortly – sites like Seatwave are already announcing their refund policy – rest assured we’ll keep you updated as soon as any more information is available.
Look out for full coverage and tributes in next week's magazine.
