'Strictly Come Dancing' judge Craig Revel Horwood directs a flamenco
show that has about as much depth as the Saturday night gameshow he's
famous for. A mix of tango, flamenco and contemporary styles, the
flamenco elements are by far the strongest, thanks to
performer/choreographer Manuel Gutierrez Cabello, but the love-triangle
drama it's pegged upon just doesn't wash.
Don't listen to the negitive comments on this - I did and was concerned.
But I saw this on 7th Nov 2008 and it was superb. Remember this is not Joseph or Sound of Music, this is a drama of Dance, in Dance, you need to understand Flameco history and purpose. It's not a song and dance musical, so don't expect or compare to that. It's dance romance, dance duels, dance friendship and dance intense.
Let those with poor review, try to dance just one of the routines - then we can take their advice. Go see it before it ends.
THIS IS THE WORST SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
CRAIG REVEL HALWARD NEEDS TO STICK TO JUDGING (BADLY) RATHER THAN DIRECTING (BADLY).... WHAT WAS THAT ALL ...ABOUT?!
ALL THE PEOPLE WHO PAID GOOD MONEY TO SEE THIS SHOW SHOULD BE REFUNDED!!
BOO HOO THE LOT OF YOU!!!!!!!!
As a proud memeber of I hate being ripped off going to watch crappy flamenco IHBROGTWCF I suggest P Galore that you should try for a refund. Bar form that maybe Alex K and Simon C would go again no doubt.
Honestly (Urgent!) get a refund!!!!
It's not a question of being purist, the show is just bad...
There is nothing worse than losing money and that is to be presented with a show that even a school play can do it better....
Some people love this and others hate it - Is it so bad it's good? I need a good laugh before the credit crunch makes me homeless.
Simon - What was it that made it so good for you?
Is there any redeeming features? (my friend has already got me tix!)
If you want to see a really good Flamenco Show go and see Sangre Flamenca at the Peacock Theate.
The tickets are from £15 to £38.
I am going next week and it looks amazing!
Claire J I would try and get a refund if I were you. Seriously words cannot describe the utter poo poo that is the show. I spent alot of time laughing and when I was there allot of people left half way through. I wish I had done the same. First your out of pocket and then there is the time that you have wasted watching the crap show. Another option would be to give your tickets to someone you really hate.
Hello everyone,
I am supposed to be going to see this play next week. I got tickets for £65 each from LastMinute.com, which I thought was a good bargain at the time.
From reading Alex's and Simon's review I thought it sounded the best, but the others seem to think it is pants. Should I try and get a refund?
I was looking forward to seeing the hunky marichios.
xx
Martin - I agree with your comments about the male singers and dancers. The two-man tango and the dramatic finale were two of the highlights I found to be especially moving. It would be an exaggeration to say it brought a tear to my eyes, but it wosn't far off.
And Maria, you really should have seen it out to the end!
At the end of the day, Craig Revels Horewoods' interpretatation of the story, and his mixing of more than one latino style in a "Flamenco" show is inspired. From a purist#'s point of you, perhaps the Hampshire branch would be ashamed of me (though without me they would be nothing!), but any piece of populistic performance that encourages people to be more aware of Flamenco should be encouraged.
I couldn't agree more with Maria... I cannot express more graphicly than what Marias has said. Flamenco? Missing! Flamenca? ...Not!
Waste of money... waste of time... I cannot beleive this was a West End show... Credit (creative) Crunch in the West End????
I agree with Maria on this, the show is crap. Its awful. Do not go and see this show. How could Simon C be spellbound?? Ive been more spellbound watching my neighbours cat shit in my garden.
Simon and Alex, Flamenco is not about guys with knifes trying to dance/kill each other, neither it is about gang raping or women with big fat bottoms trying to dance and singing like strungled cats. The LGMFFC should be ashamed of you!
Can you please explain me why is there a mariachi in this story?
The only 'good' thing are the singers at the bottom left.
Me and another 30 people left the theater in the first break as it was absolutely unbearable. I don't believe is only me who didn't like the 'show'.
